Dr. Michael Schmidt
Dr. Schmidt is originally from South Carolina. He completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina in 2003 and his residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Schmidt committed many years of his career to Colquitt Regional Primary Care Clinic in Moultrie, Georgia before joining the Primary Care of Southwest GA team at the Thomasville site.
Dr. Schmidt currently resides in the Moultrie, Georgia area with his spouse and five children. He enjoys fishing, football, Nascar, and his wife is trying to teach him how to play golf.
Dr. Kate Nelson
Dr. Nelson is originally from the Melbourne, Florida area. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Telecommunications Production and Neurobiological Sciences and later graduated from FSU College of Medicine in 2013. While attending medical school, she worked with several doctors and at Archbold Hospital in the Thomasville, Georgia area and completed her residency at Atlanta Medical Center.
She and her husband are currently living in the Tallahassee, Florida area along with their son and two dogs. Dr. Nelson enjoys playing soccer, being outdoors with friends and family, photography and video.
Gregory Dodson, PA-C - Family Practice
Mr. Dodson has been providing excellent care to the citizens of Thomas County for over 30 years. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a BA in Biological Sciences. He later attended Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA where he received his BS in Medical Science and Physician Associate Certificate. Mr. Dodson has been with Primary Care of Southwest Georgia since August 2007. He is a Certified Assistant to Primary Care Physician by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed in both Georgia and Florida. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a past board member and president of the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants. Mr. Dodson was named Georgia Physician Assistant of the Year in 2003.
Denise Atkinson, FNP-C
Denise Atkinson, FNP-C, is a native of the Thomasville area. She attended Armstrong State College in Savannah, Georgia, where she received her BSN in 1995. In 2006, Denise received her MSN, Family Nurse Practitioner Degree from Albany State and in 2013 received Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Practice Nursing from Georgia State University in Atlanta. She continued to show her dedication to the area as a Nursing Instructor for Valdosta State University, both part time and full time, for several years. Denise began her career in the Thomasville area and joined the Primary Care of Southwest GA Team at the Thomasville site in January 2017.
Denise has two children, ages 23 and 19, both of whom graduated from Thomas County Central High School. In her spare time, Denise likes to read, go hiking, and foster animals in need. She has been a volunteer of the Thomas County Humane Society since 2000.
Primary Care of Southwest Georgia, Inc. is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n)
This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.
